Dick Durbin Admits People 'have to be able to present identification'

Does this mean Durbin will stand up for Arizona's new immigration law?

I mentioned this in the last post, but I don't want it missed in the linkfest, so it gets it very own post.

Durbin is defending a portion of the Democratic proposal for immigration reform where he says "The biometric identification card is a critical element here. For a long time it was resisted by many groups, but now we live in a world where we take off our shoes at the airport and pull out our identification.

People understand that in this vulnerable world, we have to be able to present identification. We want it to be reliable, and I think that’s going to help us in this debate on immigration."

Arizona has passed a law which would require people show valid identification to prove they are in America legally, or they will be detained until they can prove their status or until it is proven they are here illegally.

So, does that statement mean Durbin agrees with the law and Arizona has the right to ask for identification if there is a reasonable suspicion that someone is not here legally?

As for giving time to people to obtain identification, that is a non starter as an argument, the bill leaves plenty of time to get ID before it is implemented.
