President Obama may have won the Nobel Peace Prize, but unfortunately, he is not winning accolades from the American public as his job approval rating continues its downward slide. In September, U.S. adults were split almost evenly on the job the President has been doing – 49% gave him positive ratings and 51% gave him negative ratings. This month, the number giving him positive ratings drops to 45% while over half of Americans (55%) give him negative ratings. ….
The approval ratings of the president by Democrats and Republicans are as one would expect with 77% of Democrats giving President Obama positive ratings compared to 14% of Republicans. Independents, however, are more down on the president as 60% give him negative ratings while 40% give him positive marks on his overall job performance.
Generally I tend to take the opinions of Democrats and Republicans and put them to the side, because many surveyed go straight with party, so what I look to are the approval and disapproval numbers from Independents, people not affiliated with either party, and those numbers should very well concern Obama and the Democrats up for reelection in 2010.
Congress has it's own issues and their approval ratings are sinking faster than the Titanic.
There is one bright spot for the President – his ratings are not as low as the ratings of Congress. This month, more than four in five Americans (84%) rate the job Congress is doing negatively while just 16% give it positive marks. This continues the downward trend for Congress that has continued since their “high” positive rating of 31% in May.
Page two of the PDF shows the trend for Obama, where in March he had a 55 to 45 positive approval, in April he had 58 to 42 and May he spiked at 59 to 41.
In June, it started going downhill and Obama earned 54 to 46, August had him at 51 to 49, September saw him tip under 50 with 49 to 51 and this latest one for October has him at 45 to 55.
Obama's numbers started dropping heavily as the ramifications of the stimulus package not stimulating anything, the continued rise of unemployment was reported and more significantly, his massive hard push for Obamacare started to annoy the public at large.
The public is dissatisfied with the way the country is being run and the numbers are beginning to show it.
