Patriotic Protests Then And Now

Glenn Reynolds has a piece out in Washington Examiner that is a must read and he takes a trip back through time and shows examples of the same type of protests we are seeing now at townhalls across America, the protests be waged against Obamacare and compares them to the protests from the left on other issues.

Funny how fast the worm -- or maybe it's the pitchfork -- has turned. Now that we're seeing genuine expressions of populist discontent, not put together by establishment packagers on behalf of an Officially Sanctioned Aggrieved Group, we're suddenly hearing complaints of "mob rule" and demands for civility.

That is all you get here, go take a trip down memory lane with him for yourself.

I will note that these protests aren't seeing mass arrests, as well as no monuments are being destroyed, buildings aren't being defaced and vandalized.

His comparisons are specific to townhalls, but the documented violence and destruction from leftists groups like Code Pink and others like them at their protests, also show a comparison of civil protests which we are seeing now and the anarchy we were seeing then, to which the left claimed was "patriotic".

Patriotism, via Dictionary.com

devoted love, support, and defense of one's country; national loyalty.

You tell me, which set of protesters seem more "patriotic" to you? Which ones appear to love their country?
