Tornadoes Kill 8 Across Arkansas

At least eight have been killed in Arkansas as a storm system ripped through four states and tornadoes have left nothing but death and destruction in their wake.
Dozens of people have been injured, as many as 350 homes have been affected and over 6,000 homes were left without power as tornadoes swept through the state, starting early Friday, as high winds, twisters and hail destroyed almost everything in the path.

Other states that have been affected by this storm system are Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.

According to one meteorologist in Norman Oklahoma, Greg Carbin, as many as 25 tornadoes may have cut through parts of Oklahoma, Arkansas, eastern Kansas and western Missouri.

The Governor of Arkansas has declared multiple counties as disaster areas. Earlier reports stated seven counties and reports on CNN as off now has just said that figure has rose to nine.

One fifteen year old girl was killed while sleeping in her bed as a tree crashed down onto her bedroom, 10-year-old brother, who was sleeping in the bunk below her, was injured in that incident and brought to the hospital. Three deaths were confirmed in Van Buren County and another person was killed in Pulaski County.

It was the latest atmospheric assault in what weather watchers say has already been a very active early storm season. Through April there have been 708 tornadoes, compared to 517 during the same period last year, Sreenivasan reports. That's nearly 200 more twisters already this year.
