McCain and Giuliani Pick Up Key Endorsements

The day for endorsements I see. Reports from ABC show that McCain has gotten Sam Brownback's endorsement which could mean a much needed boost for McCain, especially in Iowa.

Brownback is a favorite of religion conservatives which can only help McCain with the religious right who has had a problem with some of his stances in the past.

In other reports we see that Rudy Giuliani has received Pat Robertson's endorsement, which in and of itself is huge for Giuliani.

Pat Robertson, one of the most influential figures in the social conservative movement, announced his support for Rudy Giuliani's presidential bid this morning at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Robertson's support was coveted by several of the leading Republican candidates and provides Giuliani with a major boost as the former New York City mayor seeks to convince social conservatives that, despite his positions on abortion and gay rights, he is an acceptable choice as the GOP nominee.

[...]

The other major effect of Robertson's support for Giuliani is that it will quiet talk in social conservative circles that nominating Giuliani would lead "values voters" to abandon the Republican Party. The stamp of approval from Robertson should assuage the doubts of many (although certainly not all) of the rank-and-file social conservatives.

I will be the first to admit that Robertson can certainly be "over the top" on issues, but he isn't running, he is just endorsing Giuliani which will bring quite a few of his followers along.

From Fox:

A Giuliani campaign aide said the Giuliani has known Robertson for a long time, and their relationship was cemented on a flight back from Israel shortly after Saddam Hussein was captured, where they discussed views on Israel and domestic policies.

The Giuliani aide said that the two have shared goals despite some minor differences.

Hat Tip tip Stop the ACLU for pointing us to the Hot Air video of the announcement.

Recent reports have opined that the GOP race is wide open and that is not a bad thing.

Fact is between McCain, Romney, Giuliani, Huckabee and Thompson, the top tiered candidates, whoever wins the candidacy in the primaries will be someone that the majority of Republicans will get behind.

That is the advantage, a very serious advantage, the GOP has over the Democrats.

It is widely acknowledged that barring any criminal charges brought against Hillary Clinton or gaffes the size of her latest over the Spitzer plan to give illegal immigrants driver's licenses, Hillary looks to be the one that will tapped to run for president.

That is a problem for the democrats in the 2008 elections.

A big problem.

One example of what I mean is shown by the facebook campaign one million strong against Hillary Clinton, I use this as an example because it shows Democrats, Independents and Republicans, all united for one cause and one cause only.... to see to it Hillary Clinton does not become President.

That group has already gather 544,000 people from all walks of life, different party affiliations and different stances on a variety of issues, all insistent that if she becomes the nominee, they will not vote for her and will actively work against her.

According to Rasmussen, 20% of Democratic men say they will never, under any circumstances, vote for Hillary Clinton.

As for her latest gaffe where she said she supported Spitzer's plan on giving illegal immigrants driver's licenses, then she said she didn't say she supported it (within two minutes), then the next day she said she supported it and yesterday, on CNN, she hedged again on the issue, that will also cost her support from her own party.

Rasmussen, just yesterday:

Seventy-seven percent (77%) of American adults are opposed to making drivers licenses available to people who are in the country illegally. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 16% take the opposite view and believe that undocumented immigrants should be allowed to get a license.

Half of voting-age Americans say they would not vote for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) if she became the Democratic nominee for president in 2008, according to a Harris Interactive poll.

Furthermore, Rasmussen shows us today that Hillary's lead, in NH, has been dropping and has just dropped another 10 points.

Senator Hillary Clinton’s lead in the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire Primary has fallen to its lowest level of the season.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone poll of the state’s Likely Primary Voters shows Clinton leading Senator Barack Obama by ten percentage points, 34% to 24%. Former Senator John Edwards attracts 15% of the vote while New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson earns 8%. No other candidate tops the 3% level of support. (see crosstabs)

At 34%, Clinton’s current level of support is the lowest measured in any Rasmussen Reports poll this year. Four previous polls in New Hampshire found her consistently in the 37% to 40% range.

This is the first poll of the race conducted since Senator Hillary Clinton’s debate gaffe concerning drivers licenses for illegal immigrants. In the last poll before that debate, Clinton held a sixteen-point advantage over Obama. A month earlier, Clinton was ahead by twenty-three percentage points.

Despite the fact that many pundits are against Hillary, all polls still show her leading the other candidates is will most likely be the candidate of choice to run in 2008.

Like I said above, that is a big problem for the Democrats in 2008.

Conservatives have five top tier Republicans that the majority of the Republican party will actively get behind when one is picked to run for the Presidency and the Democrats have... Hilary Clinton, who is the most likely candidate that will be chosen to run.

Want a sample of her negatives? Here's a bit from Ana Marie Cox's blog a year ago last August: "The Boston Herald reports on what 'ordinary, grass-roots Democrats' think about Hillary Clinton: 'Lying B**** . . . Shrew . . . Machiavellian . . . Evil, power-mad witch . . . The ultimate self-serving politician. . . Criminal . . . Megalomaniac . . . Fraud . . . Dangerous . . . Devil incarnate . . . Satanic . . . Power freak.'"

And that's from Democrats!

I know you Democrats don't want to do us conservatives any favors, but just this once let us have our way. Give us the opportunity to give the Republican attack machine another shot at Hillary Clinton. Let her coast to victory in the primaries. Then we'll take it from there.

Race 4 2008 has an excellent piece about her latest gaffe and how it will cost the whole Democratic party.
