Defeated and Frustrated Democrats

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, speaking at a recent news conference, said she doesn't blame Americans for giving Congress low marks, given that the party hasn't "been effective in ending the war in Iraq." She added: "If you asked me in a phone call, as ardent a Democrat as I am, I would disapprove of Congress as well."

The American public is sick and tired of partisan bickering, they voted to change that in the November elections and what they got was more of the same and in some cases, even worse.

Hence 11% approval ratings for Congress, the lowest in the history of polling congressional approval.

The far left, liberal faction of the Democratic party doesn't understand this and are bemoaning what it means to be a Democrat and advising the Democratic politicians to become more partisan, as evidenced by a post at Huffington Post.

And then there are the Democrats in the Congress. What a bunch of losers, hiding behind the fact that it takes 60 votes to override a presidential veto. So what? So pass a law and make Bush veto it. Make him veto something every single day. Drive the guy crazy. What have you got to lose? And meanwhile what have you done? You've voted for the surge, you've voted to authorize a war against Iran, and you're about to vote in favor of an attorney general-designate who refuses to call waterboarding torture.

For some, that 11% isn't low enough, it seems.

The latest catch by The Weekly Standard isn't going to make the far left faction of the Democratic party any happier either.

Congress has yet to act on the president's request for roughly $200 billion in supplemental funding for the war on terror, including the war in Iraq. Given Speaker Pelosi's recent promise that Democrats would offer 'more of the same' in an effort to get President Bush to 'change course' (again?), it appears that Congress is quietly preparing another 'blank check:'

After Republicans repeatedly rebuffed Democratic attempts to adopt war restrictions in September following Army Gen. David Petraeus’ testimony to Congress, Democrats began approving billions in extra funding, starting with the first stopgap spending resolution. Next up will be the regular Defense spending bill, expected to go to conference committee Tuesday. Although the bill is not expected to include funding specifically targeted to Iraq, Democrats plan to allow much of the funding to be diverted from regular Defense accounts to the war. Democratic Defense appropriators also are separately eyeing adding tens of billions in war funds, either in a small separate supplemental or attached to the next must-pass stopgap continuing resolution. They had sought to include $50 billion or more in such supplemental funding in the Defense bill itself, but leadership overrode that idea after the party’s most ardent war foes complained.

Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, said last week the Defense Department should be able to keep the war going “until May or June” with the extra flexibility and partial funding.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) also indicated Friday that Democrats are thinking of including war funding in the next CR. The existing CR expires Nov. 16.

When earlier this year the anti-war base pushed for Congress simply to cut off funds, Congressional leaders refused, fearing the political fallout. Now, given the success of the surge, such a move is increasingly unlikely.

The course was changed when General Petraeus was put in charge, more soldiers were added and counterinsurgency strategies were implemented.

The news coming out of Iraq, from "some" media outlets now is good, every week for months now and other news outlets simply choose to completely ignore Iraq rather than report what is happening, simply because they cannot bring themselves to report news if it is good.

The Democratic politicians are starting to understand that they have failed to bring about our defeat in Iraq, they have failed to force America to surrender and it is too late now because the American people are finally being shown that we are winning.

They are already being seen as the party that would have given up, but their far left, liberal faction of their party would have them commit total political suicide by trying to rip the rug out from under our troops and Americas feet by continuing to try to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.

The problem the Democrats are facing now is between their moderates and the unhinged portion of their supporters.

The unhinged wants to be on the anti-American side of almost every issue, they side with terrorists, the use terrorist speaking points when talking about America, they have no concern for our National Security and they encourage their politicians to be more partisan and play more political games instead of getting anything accomplished.

The moderates disagree with conservatives on some of the issues but they do not want America defeated and now that they are seeing success in Iraq, they are smart enough to not wish for bad news and failure.

The moderates want compromise and legislation to be passed an enacted into law, not a record number of roll call votes in the house that have no chance of becoming law just to claim that they have voted on a lot of things.

The moderates are the reason Congress has such low approval ratings and if the Democratic politicians do not start listening to the moderates and ignoring the extreme left, those numbers will fall even farther.

The Democrats have had a very bad year since being voted into the majority in the house and Senate and the reason for this is they have let the extremely unhinged portion of their party lead them to the edge of the cliff.

Only by listening to the moderates of their party will they be able to back away from the edge instead of being led over the edge.

Some of the politicians are understanding this and are backing away from the extremists in their party, leading those on the far far left to further bemoan and say that they feel like they are being "put into their place."

They are...and rightly so.
