TEHRAN, Iran - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned Tuesday that a power vacuum is imminent in Iraq and said that Iran was ready to help fill the gap.
"The political power of the occupiers is collapsing rapidly," Ahmadinejad said at a press conference in Tehran, referring to U.S. troops in Iraq. "Soon, we will see a huge power vacuum in the region. Of course, we are prepared to fill the gap, with the help of neighbors and regional friends like Saudi Arabia, and with the help of the Iraqi nation."
The surge is working and by and large every politician that returns from Iraq recently, Democrats and Republicans are admitting it, some more reluctantly than others.
The only ones still trying to deny the obvious are being called out on it and shown to be so heavily invested in defeat they cannot acknowledge the facts on the ground in Iraq.
The surge has also made way for the important political progress that is now being seen in Iraq, largely ignored by the mainstream media.
In the past couple of months we have seen some major progress in Iraq, thanks to the new leadership of General Petraeus and his counter insurgency strategies, news that has been reluctantly reported on by the MSM and as more gets out there to the American people the support for the war which had been on a steady decline for the past 3 years has suddenly started to rise, slowly but surely in poll after poll. It still is not at the levels we would like to see but given that this is a two month trend turning around from a three year declining trend, the numbers are actually not bad and getting better with each and every poll.
September promises to be a very interesting month with the marches to the hill being led by Vets For Freedom and Move America Forward (Speaking of, I have an interview scheduled with the Chairman of Move America Forward coming up, so stay tuned) and multiple others organizations joining them.
Many of the Democratic politicians are repositioning themselves on Iraq because they understand that there will be no withdrawal date set with the progress that is being seen, militarily and politically, now in Iraq, and that they haven't the votes to force it upon us.
Iran's statement makes absolutely no sense in that context and is probably just trying to distract from President Sarkozy's harsh words yesterday.
Loud and clear, we will not leave a vacuum in Iraq for Iran to fill, we will not surrender now that progress is being seen on a large scale and we will not allow our Congressional Democrats to force surrender upon America.
