1st Lt. Andrew J. Bacevich: RIP

I rarely do fallen hero pieces because this is mostly a political blog and I do not think anybody should have their death politicized.

DoD:

1st Lt. Andrew J. Bacevich, 27, of Walpole, Mass., died May 13 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit during combat patrol operations in Salah Ad Din Province, Iraq. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Boston Globe
is, of course, reporting that Andrew J. Bacevich Jr.'s father is a war critic.

Personally, the father is a war critic which he is entitled to his opinion and his son gave his life selflessly for his country.

Politics be damned, the fact that I disagree with his fathers "politics" does not preclude me from keeping him in my prayers as he grieves for his boy.

Rest in peace Andrew and thank you for giving your life to protect ours.

Note to bloggers: Far left bloggers should not be using his fathers politics to "make points" off a brave soldiers death, just as bloggers from the right should not be trying to "make points" off the fact that the son voluteered to serve in a time of war.

Let the family mourn in peace, please.

[Update] Jules Crittenden has a wonderful piece up about this, here is a blogger that understands a family and their need to mourn.

His piece is called "Beloved Son".

Go. Read. Scoot.
