In the News Today

A few headlines from todays news today.

We already covered Baghdad Reid's and the Damascus Diva's latest treasonous idiocy in a previous post as well as the Good Riddance to bad rubbish where Rosie leaves the view.

McCain announced his candidacy for president which I am sure is no surprise to anyone.

McCain began his second bid for the White House in the early presidential contest state of New Hampshire, the site of his primary victory over then Texas Governor George W. Bush in 2000.

McCain cast himself as the best qualified and most experienced candidate in the presidential field, noting his years of service in Congress and before that in the military, including nearly six years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

The Supreme Court seems skeptical of the McCain/Feingold limitations on campaign laws, so that will probably go nowhere fast.

"What do you make of the fact that there are so many advocacy groups that say this is really impractical?" asked Justice Samuel Alito. His vote could be pivotal because he replaced Sandra Day O'Connor, one of five justices to uphold large portions of the campaign finance law in 2003.

Chief Justice John Roberts, who also joined the court since the 2003 ruling, asked whether the burden should be "on the challenger to prove that they're allowed to speak, as opposed to the government to prove - to carry the burden that they can censor the speech?"

Should Roberts and Alito vote to overturn the restriction or allow "as-applied" challenges to it, they would likely be joined by three justices who dissented from the 2003 ruling - Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Anthony Kennedy.

Scalia seemed to invite a fresh look at the law, saying, "Maybe we were wrong last time."
More on that is also at the ScotusBlog.

The house continues wasting tax payers money on their witch hunting expedition by granting immunity to Monica Goodling.

Congressional investigators want to question Goodling, a former aide to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, about her discussions with presidential aides about which prosecutors would be fired. Goodling, 33, has refused to testify about the firings, citing her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. She resigned April 6.

``Seeking Ms. Goodling's testimony is a pivotal step and an important one in moving this matter to a conclusion,'' Conyers said.

Virginia Republican Randy Forbes argued against the immunity grant, saying the congressional probe ``is all about wearing down and destroying as many people in the administration as possible.''
Exactly and everyone knows it.

Captain's Quarters does a great job separating Baghdad Reid's fantasy from actual facts... a must see for those that are sick of seeing the left keep repeating the lies Baghdad Reid keeps trying to tell.

MYTH #1:
General Petraeus Says The War Is A “Lost Cause

SEN. HARRY REID (D-NV): Gen. Petraeus "Told" Our Troops That "They’re Fighting For A Lost Cause." CNN BASH: "Is there something to that, an 18- and 19-year-old person in the service in Iraq who is serving, risking their lives, in some cases losing their life, hearing somebody like you back in Washington saying that they're fighting for a lost cause?" REID: "General Petraeus has told them that.” BASH: "How has he said that?" REID: "He said the war can't be won militarily. He said that. I mean he said it. He's the commander on the ground there." (CNN's "The Situation Room," 04/23/07)

FACT:
General Petraeus Sees “Positive” Signs in Iraq

GEN. DAVID PETRAEUS: "While It Is Too Early To Judge The Success Of The Surge And The Emphasis On Population Security In Iraq, We Have Seen Some Positive Results – Though The Enemy Has Certainly Sought To Overshadow Our Achievements By Carrying Out Sensational Attacks." "… Your visible presence alongside Iraqi soldiers and police has begun to restore a sense of normalcy to many areas that have seen little other than violence over the past year. Your hard work ahs also led to the uncovering of sizable weapons caches, the detentions of a number of death squad and car bomb network members, the bringing to justice of a number of militia extremists, a decrease in the number of sectarian killings, and a renewal of commerce in many markets and neighborhoods." (Gen. David Petraeus, Letter To Soldiers Serving In Multi-National Force-Iraq, 04/14/07)

Amazing at the lengths Reid will go and the lies he will tell to assure as many deaths of our soldiers as he can. TREASON. He needs to be prosecuted.

He debunks four other myths as well... so head on over and take a look at the other four.

From the White House, President Bush discusses the war supplemental.

I'm disappointed that the Democratic leadership has chosen this course. The bill they announced yesterday includes some of the worst parts of the measures they had earlier passed with narrow majorities in the House and the Senate. They know I'm going to veto a bill containing these provisions, and they know that my veto will be sustained.

But instead of fashioning a bill I could sign, the Democratic leaders chose to further delay funding our troops, and they chose to make a political statement. That's their right. But it is wrong for our troops and it's wrong for our country. To accept the bill proposed by the Democratic leadership would be to accept a policy that directly contradicts the judgment of our military commanders. I strongly believe that the Democrats' proposal would undermine our troops and threaten the safety of the American people here at home. And here is why.

Austin Bay has a wonderful piece out discussing Baghdad Reid over at Real Clear Politics.

On Harry Reid's planet, America's enemies need only have one objective: to murder, in a sensational, media-magnifying manner, enough of their own citizens to discomfit and distress Harry Reid Democrats.

I distinguish Harry Reid Democrats from Harry Truman Democrats. Between these two Harrys spreads a vast moral chasm that 60 years of history do not fully explain.

"Give 'em Hell" Truman possessed a large quotient of common sense, as well as the courage of his convictions.

Assess Reid for yourself. Last week, the Senate majority leader said, "Now I believe myself ... that this war is lost, and that the surge is not accomplishing anything, as indicated by the extreme violence in Iraq yesterday."

But within minutes after declaring Iraq lost, Reid returned to the mikes to backtrack. "The (Iraq) war can only be won diplomatically, politically and economically, and the president needs to come to that realization," Reid said,

It's lost, but can only be won, if ... if what? If "Give 'em Hooey" Harry Reid is in charge?

Reuters Headlines with "Bin Laden overseeing Iraq, Afghanistan ops: Taliban"

Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden is orchestrating militants' operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, a senior commander of Afghan Islamist group Taliban said in remarks broadcast on Wednesday.

Bin Laden has not made any video statements for many months raising speculation that he might have died.

"He is drawing plans in Iraq and Afghanistan ... Praise God he is alive," Mullah Dadullah told Al Jazeera television.

Last for now, but not least, NewsMax says "Bombshell Cripples Case Against Haditha Marines"

There we go, a little bit of something for everyone.

I did hear on the local news that some sick jackass oiled up his puppy and fed it to his snake and I must say, I hope someone oils HIM up and feeds him to the snake too.
