House Bill Passes: Pork and Chess Updates

Part one was getting a little lengthy and considering reactions are coming in a mile a minute, I am starting a new post, continuing where the last one ended.

Here is Part One.

Democratic support is withering even as they hail their great success that gets them nowhere except to die a natural death in the Senate or to suffer the Veto pen.

Reaction from Code Pink: (They were arrested at Nancy Pelosi's office)

Four members of the anti-war group CODEPINK were arrested outside the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) Thursday afternoon, following an announcement that they would seek to take over the office.

The group’s members had planned to hold a symbolic “Pin the war on the Donkey” demonstration at Pelosi’s office to show their frustration with the Democratic leadership’s inaction on ending the war in Iraq.

However, Capitol Police prevented the taping of a drawn donkey to the wall.

CODEPINK members were crying outside Pelosi’s office. When asked why, Rae Abileah, 24, said she was crying out of “outrage that this is all we can get from the Democrats,” referring to the Iraq supplemental funding bill, scheduled for a vote Friday.

“We’re just heartbroken that Nancy Pelosi has decided to keep funding George Bush’s war, and now the war belongs to the Democrats as well as the Republicans,” said CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin. “We thought we were going to get a change when they came into power.”

One set of supporters down and the bill just passed in the house today...the fallout for Pelosi and crew will far outweigh the 15 minutes of glory this pork laden bill is getting them.

Mark my words.

Captain's Quarters:

Tough stuff. Bush sounded like a man itching for a fight, but he may not have to throw any punches. It's likely that the bill will never make it out of the Senate. The GOP will almost certainly filibuster the bill, and they might just defeat it without a filbuster if Joe Lieberman does the expected thing. Regardless, the bill will not make it to Bush's desk unless the sky falls in Iraq, and right now it looks like the Coalition has the momentum there.

So what happens next? The money for the war will start to run out next month. If Congress fails to fund the mission, the troops and their families will start feeling the bite -- and the Democrats will have to take responsibility for that. They may want to recall a somewhat similar standoff between Newt Gingrich and Bill Clinton, one that didn't involve abandoning troops under fire in a war zone. Even a precipitous withdrawal would have to receive funding, and if the Democrats don't supply any at all, then they will have made a huge mistake for which they will pay dearly later.

Basically what I have been saying, only Captain Ed says it better...lol

Clayton Cramer is harsher, but still correct in my view.

The Democrats have just told the crowd that tortures people to death with power tools, blows up children to get their car bomb past a checkpoint, and beheads hostages on videotape, that they just have to wait a bit longer, and they will get what they want.

The Democrats are the party of treason, enablers of torture and barbarism.

OUCH.

Alphabet City hits the nail on the head:

To what end? President Bush will veto it - assuming it passes the Senate, which is not likely. Pelosi says it's a victory for Americans who don't want any part of a "long war." If she really believes that the majority of the American public want out of Iraq, then move to cut off the funding. Put up or shut up. As for the long war, we're in it. And Iraq is the frontline. Our enemies know it.* Bush knows it. Americans know it. Our servicemen and women know it. And team Pelosi and the Dhimmicrats know the American public know it otherwise they would move to stop the war by cutting funding for it. Cowardice and retreat; the Qaidists and Khomeinists thrive on it.

This one isn't so much a reaction to the passing of the latest defeatist bill, this is a soldier in Iraq that makes a point that many of make daily here:

Which leads me to my next thought why blog? I had forgotten how hard the home front was. The seemingly endless reports of people killed by roadside bombs. If I did not know what I know, I would be depressed and discouraged too. All of those deaths though have a context and that context is very meaningful both to the mission and to the family members. That was the true purpose of the Badgers Down series.

[...]

Here is your good news tidbit of the first day of spring Home Front - a year ago there were no Iraqi Police stations in Ar Ramadi - Today there are 9. Today Iraqi Police are taking the fight to Al Queda in large numbers with the US Forces supporting them where as a year ago there was not an IP to do that. Anyone who tells you we are not making progress in Iraq is either misinformed or a liar. Either way pay them no mind.

Misinformed or a liar... how many times have I said this very thing? I lost count.

Show of hands folks.. how many think Congress or the moonbats are simply misinformed and how many think they are just liars?

Wolf Pangloss has the quote of the day:

I know that al-Libi (aka Abulbakar Mohammed Hassan) appreciates his allies Pelosi, Murtha, and Reid. I hope Pelosi et alia appreciate their allies in the Jihad, the global anti-capitalist, anti-American, anti-civilized media, corrupt politicians of all stripes, global terrorists, and the terrorists of the Battle of Iraq. They make a good team.

Well said.

More reactions from the right and the left to come....
