Explosions in Iran

The Jawa Report is reporting explosions in Iran. (Hat Tip to Hot Air)

From what I can gather this was first reported by Student Movement Coordination Committee for Democracy in Iran, yesterday:

Huge explosion rocks Iran's south central region

A huge mysterious explosion rocked Iran's main south central region in the early morning of today.

The mysterious explosion is believed to have happened in the mountains located at about 100 KM of the city of Kerman.

So far no official explanation has been given despite the fact that the shake impact of the explosion was felt in a big part of the region.

It is followed up by Ace of Spades who is reporting three explosions in Iran:

We still do not know exactly what the explosions are, there are a few guesses but not many facts as of yet. Seems Iran might just have their hands full here. Couldn't happen to a better thug than the thug that runs Iran.

Keep checking The Jawa Report and Ace of Spades for updates. I will continue looking around to see if there is anything new on this in the news.

Damn, didn't even get to hit publish before I have my first update here...

Alertnet:

TEHRAN, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Three strong explosions jolted southern Iran on Thursday, the semi-official Fars news agency reported, but it was not clear if there were any casualties.

The cause of the explosions in Khorramshahr in the province of Khuzestan, which borders Iraq, was not clear, but a local journalist said they were controlled explosions to destroy land mines left in the area since the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war.

"The governor's office informed people on Wednesday night that mine-sweeping activities will take place on Thursday," the journalist with Iran's state television told Reuters.

An Oil Ministry official said the explosions occurred far away from any oil facilities in Khuzestan, the heartland of Iran's oil industry, where small bombs damaged 15 pipelines and one oil well in September 2005.

Khuzestan has been simmering with unrest among the province's mostly Arab population for more than a year.

Slightly more than half of Iran's 69 million people are Persians and the rest are ethnic Azeris, Kurds, Arabs, Turkmen, Baluchis and Lors.

About 3 percent are Arabs and authorities are sensitive about protests and discontent in the southwestern Arab territories.

I will keep checking the news and update this post as news comes in.

I HAVE to admit, with all that has been going on, the first thing I thought of is, OH MY GOD, Israel did it finally and good for them....but that isn't the case from what we know as of yet.
