Is AP Just Stubborn or Stupid?

This mess with the AP has gotten out of hand here. Now they are actually erasing their older stories to cover up misinformation and lies instead of simply saying.... we were mistaken and being done with this whole mess. (Hat Tip to Curt at Flopping Aces, linked above)

In this day and age of the internet, did the AP seriously think they could take an OLD story down, rewrite it, remove the lies from it and repost it? Did they NOT think that the original story had already been seen, copied, reposted all over the net and could be found?

Come on!!! They are simply making matters worse. So their informant lied about who he was, or what position he held, or the actual information....or something. But why would the AP rather people think THEY are the ones that deliberately lied?

The original version:

AP reporters who have been working in Iraq throughout the conflict learned of the mosque incident through witnesses and neighborhood residents and corroborated it with a named police spokesmen and also through hospital and morgue workers.

The new cached version:

AP reporters who have been working in Iraq throughout the conflict learned of the mosque incident through witnesses and later corroborated it with police.

The AP simply encourages closer inspection and rampant stories that will continue to increase until they simply admit THEY WERE WRONG. Thats all they have to do, admit it, stop being stubborn.

Reuters could offer them a good example in their handling of the manipulated photos from Adnan Hajj, they fired the photographer and pulled his pictures. CASE CLOSED.

Confederate Yankee with an excellent roundup of expert opinions on the methods the AP is using and the ethics of journalism.
Ace of Spades.

[UPDATE] 3:21PM- Hot Air points out that the two Stories from AP have different timestamps but were released the same day, one just omits what the earlier version says.
