Will History Repeat Itself?

[UPDATE] 11/11/06- A soldiers letter to the American People.

[UPDATE #2] 11/11/06- Some still understand what leaving Iraq before it can stand alone would mean.
Pretty bad when a place like Romania has more honor than the Democrats..

In an interview with The Associated Press, Basescu said he empathized with mounting calls to withdraw the country's 608 non-combat personnel in Iraq, including impassioned pleas from the families of those serving.

But "Romania's honor is greater than its feelings," he said. "An exit strategy is a matter of concern for us, and we are building it with our main allies, the U.S. and the U.K. But the states that form the coalition cannot abandon Iraq as it is now," he said after addressing reporters at a presidential retreat about 60 miles northeast of Bucharest.

"We have an obligation to the Iraqi people. We will leave when the local authorities can provide security for the people," he said.

Headline: McGovern to Meet with Congress on War.

George McGovern, the former senator and Democratic presidential candidate, said Thursday that he will meet with more than 60 members of Congress next week to recommend a strategy to remove U.S. troops from Iraq by June.

Can anyone say "Vietnam"?

Anyone who has any knowledge of history understands that al-Qaeda knows our history and is determined to see a repeat of it. To that affect they have used our own media and the Democratic party as their allies. I still doubt they are unwilling allies. I believe some of the Democratic party knows and understands that they are being used and since their goals are the exact same as al-Qaeda's, they simply do not care.

October 15, 1969 - The 'Moratorium' peace demonstration is held in Washington and several U.S. cities.

Demonstration organizers had received praises from North Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Van Dong, who stated in a letter to them "...may your fall offensive succeed splendidly," marking the first time Hanoi publicly acknowledged the American anti-war movement. Dong's comments infuriate American conservatives including Vice President Spiro Agnew who lambastes the protesters as Communist "dupes" comprised of "an effete corps of impudent snobs who characterize themselves as intellectuals."

Sound familiar?

Bottomline, due to the enemy using our own people to force an early withdrawal, 2.25 MILLION Southeast Asian lives were lost, a large number of them civilian.

Is this what you wish for Iraq? Did we learn nothing from Vietnam? Would you have our soldiers deaths be in vain?

From one American Soldier:

I told them that we needed to have stability in the Middle East and Iraq was the prime place for it. I told them that like most people, we did the right thing by going in Afghanistan. However the Middle East needed to have stability. I explained the strategic reason why Iraq was the prime place. I told them what countries borders Iraq and how it was the center piece for that area. Saddam needed to be taken out regardless; he was a ruthless leader, etc, etc. I explained to them that the knee-jerk reaction to 9/11 included Iraq. It was just a matter of time.

I said to them that if they thought this was a fool’s war, then what about the next conflict? Is that going to be another fool’s war? Should we let the people depict what is a fair war? Should we hold votes to decide what kind of war is right for the US? It doesn’t work like that I told them. We are given the rights we have for the sacrifices of men and woman who serve our nation. I told the younger guy that it is a privilege he has to be standing on this bridge protesting the war and our government. I said you know if he were in Iran he would be shot and drag through the streets. I told him how dare he say he supports the troops but not the war that I nearly died in?

Visit his site. We ignored our troops thoughts and opinions before the elections, are we going to continue to ignore them?

This is from Boots in Baghdad and I featured it in my post "The Soldiers Keep Speaking":

What a deal for Mr. and Mrs. America! They are now experts on American foreign policy in the Middle East and it is obvious to them America is losing the war because they get to watch America’s soldiers getting shot.

Never mind the fact that in over three years the U.S. has had less KIA then a bad day in WWII or a bad week in Vietnam. Never mind the fact that in over three years of intense combat we have sustained less KIA’s than we did in one day back in 2001. Na, none of that matters. That was a long time ago. This is now.

So, Mr. and Mrs. America, make sure you run to the polls and vote for whoever is going to end the war! That way, America can pull out and let the bad guys fight it out! That way, our enemies can be left alone to wage war on our homeland. Great! Then, when that happens, we can blame someone else and ask what we did to deserve this!

Why should we stay and get things done the right way when the whole world and all of our enemies are counting on America’s weak population to vote us out of Iraq? Come on, let’s quit! If we do what they want us to do, they’ll like us again!

Read what he has to say for yourself.

The question we have to ask ourselves is how strong are we as a nation? Are we a nation of "cut and run"?

Need you see more read his Staying the Course article.

Since its invasion of Iraq over three years ago, the United States has ridden a public opinion roller coaster. Pundits and armchair generals alike are quick to presume complete failure if even one aspect of an extremely intricate mission seems challenging. However, it is important to acknowledge that the task of altering the course of a nation is an extremely complex and in-depth objective. America has rebuilt Iraq’s schools, hospitals, infrastructure, economy and government in only three years and cannot stop now.

Some of the most substantial and recognizable improvements have been to Iraq’s infrastructure. Since America’s invasion over 2300 schools have been rehabilitated and constructed and are being fitted with over 8.7 million new textbooks (USAID, 2006). The U.S. believes that the children of Iraq are the future of the Middle East. It is important that all Iraqi children are given the opportunity to receive a well balanced and unbiased education, covering the core subjects as well as technological familiarization, hygiene and individual rights.

These are the things that only a soldier on the ground would know and they are trying to tell us!!!

Winning means we continue to press forward in Iraq. If CNN focused on every violent act that occurred in the state of California and aired it continuously, it would look terrible. While there certainly is violence in Iraq and security problems, there has been consistent progress there. We continue to build schools and strengthen infrastructure. Their economy continues to grow and their technology continues to advance. See my article Staying the Course for more detail.

Every Iraq is not armed to the teeth. The Iraqi government has specifications on what weapons are authorized for the general public. Certain weapons are permitted for self defense, and upstanding Iraqi citizens abide by the laws. Of course the Iraqi citizens are not seen as the enemy. Nor are the Iraqi citizens viewing our troops as the enemy. There is certainly frustration. More than anything the people of Iraq fear what will happen if the United States leaves prematurely. They know they will be slaughtered as foreign funded militias and terrorist groups fight for control of the country. They know what is at stake and want to see their country succeed just as bad as we do. They are far more intelligent then you give them credit for and their resolve certainly is stronger than yours.

Tell me something, how many people actually think these great soldiers will thank you for forcing them to leave a battle they KNOW they are winning? Understand this clearly, if they are asked to surrender to defeat, they will make sure the world knows the truth when they come home and the Democratic party, should it be the reason for that.... will be done, once and for all.

Search out every senator and congress members email and start emailing them.

Our only other option is to sit and watch history repeat itself. How many deaths will we THEN be responsible for?

Make no mistake... people wish to blame President Bush for the lives lost in this war? Should we leave before the job is done, then the Democratic majorities will be responsible for each and every life lost from that day forward.
