al-Qaeda Reacts and Democrats Lie to the Voters

Did anyone really believe that undermining our government would calm things down in the US or in Iraq? If they thought that, they were sadly mistaken.

The news coming out as I write this is that al-Qaeda reacts to the election results and the Boston Herald outs the Democratic Politicians as liars to the American Voters or to the Iraqi President.

I will start with al-Qaeda's newest threats, here and here. (Hat Tip to Iowa Voice and Stop the ACLU)

The group also said it welcomed the Republican electoral defeat that led to the departure of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, and it added that its fighters would not rest until they had blown up the White House.

Abu Ayyub al-Masri, also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, also urged the U.S. to stay in Iraq so his group would have more opportunities to kill American troops.

"The al-Qaida army has 12,000 fighters in Iraq, and they have vowed to die for God's sake," a man introduced as al-Muhajir said in an audio tape made available on militant Web sites."We will not rest from our Jihad until we are under the olive trees of Rumieh and we have blown up the filthiest house — which is called the White House,"

al-Muhajir said.Al-Muhajir became the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq after Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a U.S. airstrike in June.

He urged Bush not to withdraw U.S. forces so al-Qaida could have more opportunities to fight U.S. soldiers. "We haven't had enough of your blood yet," he told the U.S.

The speaker also referred to Rumsfeld's resignation and called on "the lame duck (Bush) not to hurry up in escaping the same way the defense minister did.""They are getting ready to leave, because they are no longer capable of staying," the al-Qaida leader said, referring to U.S. forces.
Is anyone really surprised that al-Qaeda has been empowered and sees victory? After all, "we the people" handed them this thought on a silver platter.

Now, the Democratic party has at once shown a strength I did not expect (IF they told the truth to the Iraqi President) and also showed that they lied to the Democratic Voters or the Iraqi people. Only time will tell which people they lied to and which they told the truth.

The Boston Globe reports:

President Jalal Talabani said Thursday that he had been assured by Democrat congressional leaders during a recent visit to Washington that they had no plans for a quick withdrawal of U.S. forces.
Talabani, a Kurd whose post is ceremonial, said Democrats also backed the idea of placing U.S. troops in bases while putting Iraqis in charge of security in and around cities.
“They all told me that they want the success of Iraq’s democratically elected government and continued support for the Iraqi people to defeat terrorism,” Talabani said about his trip to the United States in late September as many were predicting the Democratic congressional triumph in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

“One of them (a Democrat leader) told me that any early withdrawal will be a catastrophe for the United States and the world,” Talabani, speaking from his northern hometown of Sulaimaniyah, told the Dubai-based Al-Jazeera satellite broadcaster.
Asked whether the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld meant a collapse of the Bush administration’s policy in Iraq, Talabani said, “I know George Bush as a clear and strong man who does not bow down to blackmail.”

Then we have Iran's reactions to the elections:

"This issue (the elections) is not a purely domestic issue for America, but it is the defeat of Bush's hawkish policies in the world," Khamenei said in remarks reported by Iran's student news agency ISNA on Friday. "Since Washington's hostile and hawkish policies have always been against the Iranian nation, this defeat is actually an obvious victory for the Iranian nation."

The Democrats wrested control of both houses of Congress from the Republicans in this week's mid-term elections, partly because of voter concern over the war in Iraq.

Do you feel safer yet Mr. and Mrs. America?

Sister Toldjah accurately captures things in two short but sweet paragraphs:

Yes, the American people thankfully have the right to vote, and they made their voices heard on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the wrong message has been sent. Our actions here at home have consequences abroad. Those who will suffer the most will be our troops, who will face an enemy who has been emboldened now more than ever. Afterall, when you’ve got the House Speaker claiming that the Iraq war is “not war to be won but a situation to be solved”, why wouldn’t you be emboldened if you were a terrorist?

The enemy has been listening to the Democrats’ defeatist comments on Iraq the whole time we’ve been there. And you can be assured that enemy hasn’t forgotten what those Dems, who weren’t in the majority then but are now, have repeatedly said about how the war was a “mistake” and how we “shouldn’t be there” and how we need to get out as soon as possible. They know what we are saying and doing here in America. The question is: is the new majority in Congress listening?

As for those that think that voting for the Democratic party would make our soldiers safer, ignoring what the soldiers on the ground were telling them..... NOW our soldiers are in even more danger.

Moderate Sunni Muslims, meanwhile, threatened to walk away from politics and pick up guns, while the Shiite-dominated government renewed pressure on the United States to unleash the Iraqi army and claimed it could crush violence in six months. After Democrats swept to majorities in both houses of the U.S. Congress and Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld resigned, Iraqis appeared unsettled and seemed to sense the potential for an even bloodier conflict because future American policy is uncertain. As a result, positions hardened on both sides of the country's deepening sectarian divide.

We made our bed, now I guess we have to lie in it. This is what we asked for, I suppose now we have it.

Big Dogs Weblog says it all:

Now America, do those of you who stayed home or gave a protest vote feel foolish yet? The damned Democrats were telling the Iraqis the same thing Republicans were telling you. They were told that America would not leave Iraq any time soon (what Bush has said all along) and that leaving Iraq too soon would be a disaster which is the same thing that Republicans have been saying all along. The Democrats lied to you about the war in order to be reelected. Very soon now they will be saying that we can’t come home as soon as they thought because Bush screwed everything up. You will know the truth. They had no intentions of leaving early. They only said it to get your votes. You elected them to office and they will do the very thing you rejected Republicans for.

Anyone else have a very bad feeling about now? That pit in your stomach that tells you that an attack on American soil is imminent? The enemy feels braver and stronger now and we did that for them. Only in America can we protest our own administration and at the same time hand victory to the enemy. Job well done.
