Barack Obama Telling The Netroots To F' Off

Those weren't his words but considering the active campaign to try to force Barack Obama to "kill" the FISA compromise that the House just passed, he might as well have just told them F' Off.

First they tried to get people to call their Representatives and make them vote no.

From yesterdays WUA piece:

The whining fest begins with Shakesville who headlines the post with "Damn Dems". They are encouraging their readers to write Congress to vote against this compromise deal that the negotiators took forever to get to... good luck with that.

From that Shakesville piece:

Write Your Representative and ask them to vote against the FISA Amendments Act, H.R. 6304 and demand the telecoms not be given immunity for their complicity with the Bush administration thugs. Shaker Allie notes in comments that the ACLU also has a free fax form to contact your representatives on this issue. I just used it; great stuff!

Obsidian Wings as well:

That's just wrong. If you agree, call your Representative and say so.

That didn't work out so well because Congress passed the measure this morning.

The Campaign To make Obama Kill The FISA Bill:

Yesterday I showed you some reactions from the far far left liberal bogosphere, some of the netroots actively encouraging people to call Barack Obama as if he cold kill the compromise bill that passed today, with a 293 to 129 vote.

DailyKos:

Call Barack Obama and urge him to make a public statement reiterating his opposition to telco amnesty. His opposition could kill this deal: Phone (202) 224-2854, Fax (202) 228-4260

Today we saw more of the same, with Obsidian Wings saying, "I do very much want to know why Barack Obama didn't say a word throughout all this."

A Commenter at Balloon Juice saying, "And where the fuck is Obama on this? Talk about missing in action.

If he doesn’t do anything to stop this going through the Senate, I’m going to be really pissed off."

Others also tried to get their readers to call and get Obama to "kill" this FISA compromise and my answer to them, from the previous post was this:

There was nothing he could DO about it, the Messiah doesn't have that kind of pull and what does his answer matter? You will vote for him anyway because you do not have a choice..it is either vote for Obama, vote for a third party candidate that has no chance of winning or vote for McCain or stay home.

You think anyone is under any illusion about what you are going to do? Obama knows this and knows you will vote for him so he didn't HAVE to try to do anything and be seen as ineffectual.

Barack Obama has finally spoken up and his words are not making die hard far left progressives very happy.

Relevant excerpt:

"It is not all that I would want. But given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. So I support the compromise, but do so with a firm pledge that as President, I will carefully monitor the program, review the report by the Inspectors General, and work with the Congress to take any additional steps I deem necessary to protect the lives - and the liberty - of the American people."

Obama supporters are not very happy with his stance on this, as evidenced by Greg Sargent at Talking Points Memo who says:

To be clear, I'm not even talking about whether opposing this would or wouldn't have carried political peril. It really doesn't matter. Because if there were ever anything that would have tested his operating premise throughout this campaign -- that you can win arguments with Republicans about national security -- it was this legislation. If ever there were anything that deserved to test this premise, it was this legislation.

And this time, he abandoned that premise.

One has to wonder if they really believed Obama's hype about "change"? When you start believing your own press, your objectivity has gone right out the window and guess what? They will still be voting for Obama!!!

Here is a question for those people...seriously.

John McCain might not hold the stand on this issue that Obama supporters do, but at least he has been honest and consistent about his stance..... yet, they would rather vote for a man that has just shown that he is NOT consistent? Not willing to stand up as he said he would?

Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Atrios over at Eschaton has named Obama the Wanker of the Day.

Hullabaloo calls it a "colossal failure of leadership".

They will vote for Obama anyway, even though he is, in their words, a "wanker" a "failure" and a liar.

Who exactly are the wankers here? The man that does all this, or those that are voting for him even after acknowledging all this?
