Beware, They Are Among Us Spreading Iranian AI Generated Propaganda As Artificial Intelligence Is Used Widely By Iran Targeting Patriotic Americans

Let's begin with a few questions. 

How would you know if the person you are speaking to online is an Iranian operative, or if a meme you are sharing came from an Iranian cyber warfare campaign? How would you know if information you are sharing, or even just basing your own opinion on came from an Iranian cyber unit? 

Better yet, maybe the more important question would be, "Would you know at all"?

Before getting into the reports and documented data regarding the conflict between the U.S., Israel and Iran, in 2026, let's offer a quick reminder from 2024, showing this isn't a brand new problem, but something that has been ongoing for years.

Flashback, September 2024: "Iran’s AI-driven Social Media Botnets Target US Voters."

Key Attack Insights:

1. As part of its foreign policy, Iran attempts to manipulate public opinion through automated bots that spread misinformation by pretending to be real social media influencers.

2. As U.S. elections approach, these influence operations are expanding from targeting Israelis to focusing on Americans (see Figure 1).

3. Iranian actors are leveraging advanced AI technologies to generate convincing content, including deep fake videos and multilingual posts, significantly increasing the scale and sophistication of their campaigns.

4. The operations employ a cross-platform strategy, establishing presence across multiple social media services to increase credibility and reach, making containment and detection more challenging.

5. Iranian bot operators employ sophisticated TTPs, including the use of proxy IPs, AI-generated content and profiles, cross-platform coordination, and exploitation of current events, making their operations increasingly difficult to detect and counter.

According to Politifact, which of course needed to be confirmed and verified since that group has often put out their own disinformation, or rather "misleading" fact-checks, Iran's influence operation capabilities go back to 2010.

The point here is this information isn't just new, it has been an ongoing disinformation campaign from Iran, on a variety of topics, for over a decade. Adjusting the narrative for current events over the years, they use the same formula, and taking full advantage of new technological advances in AI to spread their misinformation to a far wider audience as the years go on.

At this point there is no doubt that many countries utilize some of the same tactics, and Iran is not alone in using technology to spread certain narratives, which is why double checking, and triple checking information is critical for each and every one of us to do.

Personally it is the information out there that does fit my own biases that I not only triple check, but often quadruple check, or more, just so I won't be taken in by disinformation. When I see something on social media that I also believe, I tend to trust it even less than seeing information that doesn't match my own thinking.

That comes with being a writer that has followed the white rabbit down the hole a time or two just to learn that a great story, was really a hoax, and having to scrap weeks worth of work.

Now we'll jump forward to Iran's current online cyber information campaigns, reported by multiple sources, and in many cases debunked by the people on the ground, and in the know.

How Iran spreads fake news with AI using ‘British’ social media accounts - The propaganda accounts have moved from promoting Scottish nationalism to misleading war content, including destroyed US bases and Netanyahu’s ‘death’

A network of Iranian-controlled accounts on social media claiming to be British or Irish has been posting pro-Tehran propaganda and fake AI-generated news, experts have found.

A total of 34 accounts on X, Instagram and Bluesky with fake personas purporting to be based in London, Glasgow and Dublin are actually controlled from Iran.

The network is part of a wider disinformation campaign being waged by Tehran across social networks using AI tools to spread fake news. It was uncovered by researchers at Clemson University’s Media Forensic Hub.

Iran targets US public opinion with online information war - 

The Iranian regime has been running an online influence campaign using AI-generated photographs, videos and memes to sow confusion about the war in the Middle East. Experts say the main goal is to ramp up anti-war sentiment in the US and pressure President Trump to end the conflict

Some key points from France24, which highlights specific tactics.

• Among the most widely viewed content are AI-generated videos mocking Trump – styled to reference Western media including the LEGO movies and the Teletubbies – and AI videos and photographs claiming to show the devastation Iranian strikes have wrought on Israel and the Gulf states.

• “The propaganda includes memes and cartoons that aren't meant to be perceived as real but are very good at spreading political messaging,” said Darren Linvill, author of the study and co-director of Clemson’s Media Forensics Hub. 

• “The deepfakes portray a version of reality that [seems] genuine and often paint Iran as more successful in the conflict. Both are being shared widely among communities that are critical of the war and hungry for this messaging.”

• The accounts analysed in the Clemson study had been used previously for Iranian influence operations “designed to exploit regional fault lines to advance Iranian regime interests” in the West by posting “politically divisive” content such as critiques of the recent US immigration crackdown.

In a Blavity piece, the "experts" and yes, I used quotes there because even the experts have their own biases, but I found multiple sources confirming it, this is the first major conflict that "AI content has been used in war efforts over information."

Iran has posted AI-generated videos, memes and out-of-context footage in its war of information. One example is a Lego-inspired video showing Iranian soldiers fighting against Trump and Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu. It depicts Trump gambling in its war efforts, lying to the U.S. population, and being followed by various representations of the Epstein files.

“This conflict is the first time we’ve really seen AI-generated content be used very intentionally to sow chaos and confusion around what’s actually happening on the ground,” Melanie Smith, an expert in information operations at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, told France 24.

What is also new in this war of information is that Iran’s war of information targets Americans.

“They are not used to seeing the messages of a country that the U.S. government is bombing that are directed toward them. This is quite new,” Emerson Brooking, the director of strategy at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab, told NPR.

Those experts say Iran is using such methods because AI videos “travel fast and plug into emotions that people already have."

An America First Approach To Target Iran’s Digital Battlefield

The Iranian regime is scoring asymmetrical victories in the information war, due in large part to this social media activity. internet access is heavily restricted for ordinary Iranian citizens, but regime officials, who are allowed access and have millions of online followers in the U.S. and worldwide, provide a steady supply of fake news to an audience eager for their anti-U.S., anti-Israel, and anti-West messaging. They are only part of a vast ecosystem of English-language accounts operated by or affiliated with Iranian state media, the IRGC, the Basij militia, and the country's religious establishment.

On March 30, 2026, the White House published the release President Trump Acts Where Democrats Refused — Bringing Relief to TSA Workers and Travelers announcing that between President Trump's Memoranda (discussed in my March 28, 2026 ANP Article) and reassigning ICE officers to airports to assist TSA with security screenings, President Trump has taken action where Democrats refused. While the White House admits these actions are short-term relief, tens of thousands of other DHS workers continue to go without pay. The release calls for Democrats in Congress to immediately end the partial shutdown, pass responsible funding legislation, and to stop putting political demands over the safety, security, and livelihoods of the American people.

On March 28, 2026, the White House published the statement Education and Sharing Day, U.S.A., 2026 reaffirming the importance of a rigorous education. This day was established in honor of Rebbe Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson and is proclaimed each year by the current President on Rebbie's birthday which occurs 4 days before Passover (a day usually between March 21 and April 21 each year). Congress set aside this day in 1978 and each President since then has issued a statement about this day. President Trump writes:

On Education and Sharing Day, we celebrate the heroic life and enduring contributions of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, and we pledge to carry forth his legacy of fearless and moral leadership.  As we celebrate 250 years of American independence, we recommit to building a future where moral courage, faith, and devotion to freedom remain the bedrock of our Republic.  Above all, we reaffirm that America will forever be one Nation guided by the eternal wisdom and providence of the Almighty.

On March 29, 2026, the White House published the Presidential Message on National Vietnam War Veterans Day honoring those who served in the combat arena during the Vietnam War, thanking them for their extraordinary courage, steadfast resilience, and unbreakable bond of brotherhood while enduring one of the most gruesome combat experiences in American history. The Vietnam War was one of the deadliest in American history with 58,000 service members killed and more than 300,000 wounded. These service members returned to a country that vilified them for having been in Vietnam. President Trump writes:

Today, we stand united in gratitude for the courageous service and love of country exemplified by the patriots who fought in the Vietnam War.  As we celebrate 250 glorious years of American independence, we reaffirm our Nation’s sacred promise to always support and honor every hero who has fought in defense of our freedom, our home, and our way of life.  You will always have my unfailing loyalty and support.

Can you imagine being sent to a new war, halfway around the world, in a country where English is not a language spoken at all by the inhabitants, spending a couple months on a ship getting from the US to Vietnam, then, upon arrival, not having any ammunition to go with the weapon you were issued? This happened to my uncle who was in the first group of soldiers sent to Vietnam by President Johnson in 1965. And it did not get any better as the war continued. While I did not serve in the combat arena, I am personally acquainted with many who did. The horrible situation in the arena combined with the vilification upon their return 'home' to the US left an indelible mark on the lives of these combat Veterans. The next time you see a Veteran wearing a Vietnam Veteran cap, please take the time to thank them for their service. You will make their day. I see it in my uncle and other Vietnam Combat Veterans when a random stranger says "Thank you for your service."

On March 30, 2026, the House began their meeting at 12:00:00pm. Mike Haridopolos acted as Speaker pro tempore at 12:00:36pm. Dr. Edrees Bridges of the US Capitol Police, offered the prayer for today at 12:00:46pm. The speaker's approval of the journal pursuant to clause 13 or rule I, the journal of the last day's proceedings was approved at 12:02:16pm. The Chair led the House in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag (I wonder how many Representatives actually voiced the pledge) at 12:02:36pm. The Speaker then announced the House adjourned at 12:02:55pm with the next meeting scheduled for April 2, 2206 at 8:30am. No business was conducted, not that much business could be conducted in 2 minutes and 55 seconds!

What are we paying these people for? I think that if any part of the government is shut down due to Congress' refusal to adequately budget, Congress should not receive any pay for the length of time any part of the Federal government is shut down, nor should they be allowed to go on "vacation" either.. Congress does not care enough about the Citizens of our Nation to stay at work until the budget issue is resolved. I hope every one of them loses at the next election.

A new lawsuit Minnesota v. Department of Justice docket # 1:26-cv-01007 filed in District Court, District of Columbia on March 24, 2026 about Access to Evidence in Federal Agent Shootings where  The state of Minnesota sued the Department of Justice seeking access to evidence gathered following the 3 shootings by federal agents that occurred during Operation Metro Surge. The lawsuit seeks the following relief:

1. Declare that Defendants’ policy or practice of refusing to share investigative materials with Minnesota authorities concerning the federal officer–involved shootings arising out of Operation Metro Surge is arbitrary, capricious, not in accordance with law, and in excess of statutory authority within the meaning of the APA;
2. Set aside and vacate that unlawful policy or practice;
3. Declare that the decision of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security refusing to process or grant Plaintiffs’ Touhy request in the Good matter—and, by necessary extension, in the Pretti and Sosa-Celis matters—is arbitrary, capricious, not in accordance with law, and in excess of statutory authority;
4. Set aside and vacate DHS’s denial of Plaintiffs’ Touhy requests;
5. Order the Defendants to comply with Plaintiffs’ Touhy requests by providing Plaintiffs with access to the requested evidence in the Good, Pretti, and Sosa-Celis matters.
6. Declare that the Justice Department acted unlawfully in failing to process Plaintiffs’ Touhy requests in accordance with its governing regulations and in refusing to provide the investigative materials requested by Plaintiffs in the Good, Pretti, and Sosa-Celis matters;
7. Order Defendants to comply with Plaintiffs’ Touhy requests, including by providing Plaintiffs access to the testimony, records, and other evidence requested in connection with the investigations of the Good, Pretti, and Sosa-Celis shootings;
8. In the alternative, remand Plaintiffs’ Touhy requests to Defendants with instructions to evaluate those requests promptly and in good faith under the applicable Touhy regulations and consistent with this Court’s order;
9. Compel the Department of Justice, in the alternative, to act on Plaintiffs’ outstanding Touhy requests without further delay;
10. Declare that Defendants’ actions violate the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution;
11. Order Defendants to provide Plaintiffs access to evidence and investigative materials in the Good, Pretti, and Sosa-Celis shootings to remedy Defendants’ Tenth Amendment violations;
12. Award costs and reasonable attorneys’ fees incurred in this action to the extent permitted by law; and
13. Grant such other relief as the Court may deem just and proper.

First, no law enforcement agency releases its documents before they have concluded their investigation unless other law enforcement agencies are brought into assist with the investigation. In this case, Minnesota was not brought in to assist. Once this decision is made, everything else plaintiffs are demanding becomes moot. If the activist courts in DC agree with plaintiffs, every investigation will be subject to demands by law enforcement not directly involved in the investigation. This must not happen. But, because they filed this case in DC, we can expect the activist judges to grand plaintiffs demands. Then the defendants will have to appeal which will bring in even more activist judges leading to defendants appealing to SCOTUS.
